I have a stamp from a recent letter with a 50p I O M stamp on it with pictures of Viscount Kitchener and a guy called George Kneale who I assume may be a WW1 Manx war hero. I'm drawing a blank with search engines, can anyone enlighten me ?

Somebody must be using up their old stamps. The 'Manx at War' series was issued on 22 May 2000 but there seems to be very little information available about it.

Maybe the aim of the series (pictured here http://www.delcampe.net/page/item/id,98656332,var,Isle-of-Man-2000-Churchill-Mann-at-War-Famous-Men-Nelson-Robert-Baden-Powell-Scouting-Viscount-Kitchener-others,language,E.html ) was simply to remind people that 'the ordinary man' played just as an important part in conflicts as the well-known names of history?

Thanks Buenchico, the stamp was on a package from Amazon and now I see that the 25p stamp that accompanied the 50p stamp has the legend "Isle of Man TT Races 1998". Your theory re using up old stamps seems to be correct.

Thanks tonyav, but this is a different issue you found.
