I have just been watching a short documentary on the Fall of the Berlin Wall which was 25 years ago today ,Have any ABer's been to Berlin before or after the Fall.
As part of our European tour we were booked to play at The Berlin Stadium this was years before the Fall, the choice at the time was go by Road or Train I decided we should go by road ,which meant driving through "The German Corridor"
Have you been to Berlin by this route or visited Berlin before or after the Fall.

That long ago? Gosh....I visited years ago when wall was there..did not feel comfortable with it...German friends tell me most of the easties went back east after a bit !
Can't believe it's 25 years. I went to Berlin a few years ago, and was struck by how different the East still was to the West, despite the removal of restrictions and the Wall having come down years previously.
It's a fascinating city and would love to go back again.
I am presently in work so am unable to give a full answer as yet, however sometime later today I will post a small essay about my weekend there 25 years ago as The Wall came down and how I was probably one of the last few Servicemen to travel by road down what was The Berlin Corridor.
been there a few times - while the wall was up (I went on a sleeper train, crossed the border at Erfurt), when it had just come down - I've got some bits I hacked off it - and this month, when the middle of town seems to be a huge building site. (They're building a U-bahn link along under Unter den Linden and extending the Pergamon museum). It's still a fascinating place. The big department stories all had their winter lines in... the shops and the clothes seem more stylish than in London.

ChiilDoubt, Years before the wall fell we stayed in a small hotel just a short way from the border the people there were totally different as in attitude from the other Germans who we met and it was the general opinion that this was due to the breakup of families etc when the wall went up.
I look forward to your follow up post.

Longer documentary just coming up
? Nov 9th ?
ads on teevee are on now !

and yeah chilldo I would be interested in any eye witness account of the Fall...
The priest who 'started it all' with demos around Leipzig station has just had an obit in the teleg.
weekly demos started at 1000, 5k 50k and closed down when the authorities thought 500k would turn up. ( anyway makes a good story )
I recently read The Berlin Wall - My Part in its Downfall by Peter Millar who was working for Reuters in East Berlin at the time.
His description of the demonstrations in Dresden & Leipzig and the night the border finally opened really take you back to those few months when the whole Eastern Bloc came tumbling down
