As I understand it, the ancient law that made it OK to shoot a Welshman with a longbow has never officially been repealed - but it can only take place within the city walls of Chester (not Liverpool) and only 'after midnight' (though quite how long 'after midnight' lasts is anyone's guess). I wouldn't recommend trying it these days though. It's the sort of thing the political correctness lobby tend to frown upon. :-)
This tale changes a bit each time it is told. The city that is named most often is Hereford, specifically within the cathedral precincts. Shrewsbury is almost as popular. Chester and Gloucester are also mentioned. I have been searching for this law for 30 years and would like to hear from anyone who has found it.
Apparently you can shoot a scot with a bow and arrow in york! Might explain why I've never gone there lol http://cityguides.bestwestern.co.uk/sisp/bestwestern/?fx=destination&loc_id=135533&sub_section=Fast%20Facts
This is an intresting question and when that needs clarifying before the many bitter Koppites will attempt this on Micheal Owen after he scores a hat-trick for Newcastle FC when he plays Liverpool FC. In this age of liability and everyone having excuses for there offences (daddy didnt love me enough etc) we wouldnt want the site to be closed down. LOL
I live in Shrewsbury, and have heard this supposed myth (and various similar ones) circulating for some time now, I have found a webpage that should shed some light as to the truthfulness of this debate. (See Below)http://www.maths.soton.ac.uk/staff/Dewynne/MIS C/welsh.html.
... So it looks like it is actually legal.
