Where can I find info on the rumours which were around in the 60's that Paul McCartney had died, and that clues on album sleeves suggested it was true ?

If it's urban legends info you want, the best site in the world is 'Snopes' - here's the link to a page which contains the Paul is Dead hullaballoo - http://www.snopes.com/music/hidden
Just a brief fotnote to Einstein's original answer concerning the Beetle with the 28 IF number plate - apparently it belonged to someone who worked in the area, and was parked in that particular spot on most days - its feature in the cover shot is purely coincidence, with no hidden messages intended.
Fuel was added to this fire by the fact that, on the back cover of the sgt pepper album, "paul" is actually facing away from the camera, tho' the other beetles are facing it. Keen eyed fans noticed the height and build were wrong - and they were right - it wasn't him but a studio engineer "filling in". It was due to logistic problems at the photo shoot - namely PMcC not actually being there, but not dead!
Allegedly.....
