does anybody know anything about the gorse hall murders in dukinfield/stalybridge areas, (tameside cheshire) probably about a century ago. google can only come up with the murder of a local mill owner. I, not some kind of nutter! but have recently started working at a place in the area and the place is awash with tales of ghosts and hauntings, residents and staff claim to see things on a regular basis and i am just intrigued as to what went on. the "ghosts" are apparently children playing and laughing, also visions of miners and the clanging of their tools. i.m not in the slightest bit superstitious normally, but this has got me well and truly hooked as to what went on. there was also a film on about it a couple of weeks ago that i did,nt see, but got everybody talking about it. any info would be very gratefully recieved! Thanks

.... the children playing, tools clanking, visions etc are probably more connected with The Blanketeers who were active around Stalybridge. If you look carefully here you can see the Kings Dragoon Guards cutting down The Blanketeers, and again here, and it is all these people that are no doubt doing the haunting .....

the local mill owners name was george harry storrs he lived at gorse hall as i myself am from stalybridge and also a paranormal investigator in my spare time i would be interested the whereabouts of the building you work in

there is also a book about the murders which you could take out at stalybridge library

The tv prog was pretty good.

They fingered the dead girls family as the killers of Harry Storrs.

Julian Fellowes investigates....

The prog implied that Storrs knows who is after him and why.

thanks to you all, getting more intrigued all the time, have never heard of the blanketeers, so am looking forward to reading that.

bexste, its a large building past the cricket club on gorse hall rd.!

The murder victim was Harry Storr and the murderer was supposed to be my Dad's uncle - Corneleus Howard. Howard was recognised by Storr's wife who was his cousin, but the court case (very famous because Howard was defended by the first Black barrister ever seen in a British court) floundered when other witnesses came from Yorkshire to say he had been drinking with them, and whatsmore was arrested on the night of the murder... as a member of the family I kow the truth of the matter. Happened in 1910 - my father knew his uncle and even said he saw the murder weapon - a gun - in his father's lockup!!!
