I have been listening and reading about this battle this morning, and the scale of it is truly awful.

Some of the coverage I've seen on the TV has been extremely moving.

I think you will find if you scan in that Queen Mathilde is wearing a poppy.
There is nothing wrong with what Kate is wearing it does not overshadow the poppy at all.
Your full of sourgrapes today!!

What a totally insensitive thing to say, they matter to someone albaqwerty, they certainly matter to someone.
aog, they mattered 200 years ago, I don't see any tributes laid to them.
I could have phrased it better, I must admit.

Totally no need for it Islay, her husband wears just a plain poppy not even a leaf, whilst Premier May is wearing a British Legion one.

But not our Kate, she who must be seen, decorates hers with a leaf and what looks like diamond encrusted pearls.
personally, I'd have given her stick about the stupid thing she's got on her head/
Lets face it alba he is giving her stick because she is out in public and being female should be at home cooking and cleaning!
ach, true enough Islay :-D
and she really should be preggers again by now lol

You are always sticking up for women's rights, I wonder where we would have been if the men had stuck up for their equal rights 100 years ago, or even every other war where men have been enlisted to go to foreign fields to be slaughtered?
We'd have lost the war(s).

You do say some odd things....
as far as I know men didn't have equal rights 100 years ago.
They were always right and kept women in their place.
Not allowed to vote for example.
If men wanted to have equal rights to women, they should have been suffrogettes and campaigned for them
Lol AOG you are the funniest person ever!! Should we bow down to all men then?
The poppy is a British symbol as far as I know. It was thoughtful of Queen Mathilde to wear one. The French symbol is a cornflower and comes in the form of a sticky lapel badge. We used to wear both to the War Memorial events. The French were very gracious and happy to include us in their ceremony, allowing us to lay poppies amongst their Remembrance tributes.
Anyone know why Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne was in attendance, where is Anne?
Sir Timothy Laurence, the husband of Princess Anne, was also in attendance as he is the Vice-Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

No, no need to go to extremes, just be grateful that in the past we have protected you, carried your heavy loads, and fixed those items that you periodically bring to us to fix.
Honorary Member, Royal Yacht Squadron, will attend a Dinner at The Castle, Cowes, Isle of Wight.
Oh my how you make me laugh.
Mamyalynne

Ah, thanks for that Mam, I didn't know that.
You're welcome.
My answer explains where the Princess Royal is!
