Much earlier, Henry II ruled much of France as well as England, and it could be argued he still derived much personal wealth from his lands. I think he ruled the widest realm of any English king. Not sure about the kings of other countries.
During Henry 8th time I think the church was wealthier than the king. Not an individual I know.
This is why Henry broke up the monastries and stole all their wealth, because they were so rich and he needed the money.
Of course during this time Cardinal Wolseley looked after the kings money, and he made sure he also had plenty, maybe more than the king. Enough to build Hampton Court anyway.
When Henry saw Hampton Court he was furious at how much ot must have cost, and Wolseley gave it to him, but it was too late and he left the court, disgraced.
