I've checked this out with the Prison Service and can confirm that, due to the Data Protection Act, it's not possible for inmate records to be checked online or held in public view. There is something called the Prisoner Location Service, which you can use to trace someone you think might be in prison.They forward your letter to the prisoner and it is at his/ her discretion whether they reply.
