Army Medals

I served nearly 10 years in the Territorial Army Volunteer Reserves (TAVR) and I was informed by a friend that I can apply and wear (with pride) any medals that I am entitled to, can anyone give me some advice as to whether this is the case or not.
I served between September 1978 and January 1988.
All sensible answers thankfully received
