I have been puzzled by the variety of house styles in Stretford, Gorse Hill and Urmston located in Manchester.
Did a Corporation planning committee come up with the type of houses needed and how many ?
Did they have their own builders or did they sublet to local firms?
1890s to 1950s they built them to last and are still attractive to look at even in winter.
I know the property that I live in was built by a local firm called Maunders in 1933.

Any info please

Ours was built by Maunders in 1955.
Wimpey (now TaylorWimpey) built a large estate in Urmston but that was in the 60s.
With regard to the earlier properties, it's worth remembering that 'planning permission' didn't exist in this country until the Town and Country Planning Act came into force in 1932. (Previous Town Planning Acts, such as those of 1909 and 1919, empowered local authorities to build social housing but they didn't place restrictions upon what private developers could build. See here for far more detail: https://www.createstreets.com/the-long-history-of-british-land-use-regulation ). So the design of houses prior to that date was largely down to the whims of developers, rather than under the control of local authorities.
I think that in some areas the Council had their own builders working on new estates, the father of my late husband was the CLerk of Works on one such development on Leeds in the post war years.
