My aunt recently visited Ferragudo and disovered a monument to Baden Powell, She is very interested in finding out about the monument and it's history. Any information would be gladly received.
My aunt is a commisioner with Northern Ireland Girl Guides.

The inscription on the monument was:

BADEN POWELL
PARA A SUA OBRA A NOSSA
PROFUNDA ADMIRAAO
AGRUP 413 C.N.E
19.2.84

So far i have managed to translate :

Starting with the translation:
Baden Powell: Our profound admiration for your work/ career
413 Troop, National Corps of Scouts (CNE = Corpo Nacional de Escutas)
19 February 1984

Portuguese scouts mark Baden Powell day at the end of Feb/ beeginning of March every year. Here's a page about the celebrations in 2001, for example: http://jra.no.sapo.pt/bp-2001.html
[email protected] is an email address for the 413 Troop - to find out why they raised a monument on that particular day - ask in English (more Portuguese speak English than the other way round) but here are a couple of Portuguese phrases to get you started... 'Bom dia' is 'Hello'... 'Nao falo Portuguese' is 'I don't speak portuguese'... 'Faz favor' is 'please'... 'Muito obrigado' is 'Thanks very much'!
Hope this helps.
