US History
I am partiicularly interested in US history for the period after 1865 to 1910. Can anyone recommend any books for this period understandable by a layman. I have trolled library lists and googled but a couple of pointers/recommendations would be very useful.

Among the reasons I find the 1865 -1910 period so absorbing is that so much happened in such a short time frame. The westward expansion, booming industries, the robber barons and cartels, suppression of the native Americans, Panama Canal, and so on. It seems to be the era of rapid expansion and consolidation all in one. Mind you, not too sure what's happened since!!
Many thanks mudbug162, I have found 'The American Pageant after 1865' via google, Amazon. It does not appear to be readily available in the UK and, looks as if needs to be ordered in advance in the US. With its accompanying info. it may be a text book. I am pursuing robbo82 thread which seems more readily to hand. Thanks for your interest.
