I imagine that this Q is a "lame anti-religious it's that time of the month to bash the believers" question. Nevertheless I would add that early man included the moon, sun, stars, wind, rain, animals, cow pats and bits of trees (probably) as deities. Are all these myths and ballony too?
Sure lets just smirk at the tree huggers and sun worshippers dancing around stonehenge (or laying on a beach on the Costa del Sol of course) but those people who like to read religious text and believe in something be it Jesus, Allah, Rah, Jehovah etc, jeepers they must be bonkers mustn't they.
As we become more intelligent, we are bound to start questioning the very things that our ancestors have built before us, isn't that just human nature evolving??
I, personally, believe there is nothing more to this earth. What makes us so special that we should be taken to some after life??
Religion, itself, is not a bad thing. It's is the nutters out there that exploit it for holy wars!! Who, in their right mind, can blow themself up on the promise that 70 virgins will be waiting for them!!
I seem to have stirred up some deep emotions on this very sensitive question. I am pleased to read so many variants and different points of view, some I agree with, others not.
I agree that you should not have to spend your life praying to a fictional being just because society believes this to be the 'proper' thing to do, however I would like to think that when I die I maybe life will go on in another plain, if not then at least I havent wasted my life praying.
To Diandra76. I do not agree with what you said about religion not being a bad thing, and thats its just the nutters out there. With out the religion there in the first place the nutters wouldnt be able to follow it. Could a heroin addict be an addict with out the drug? NO. Therefore a religous preacher can not preach without his/her beliefs in there chosen lie.
