Have to agree with Moog on this one, Cromwell or Gladstone would be in my Top Ten personally. Darwin also has his merits, can say I agree with the use his theories have been put to though.
Diana is probably not the 'greatest', but she is the most famous, and therefore a high enough proportion of people who aren't bothering to assess the difference will vote for her, and she will win the poll.
Of course not, she was just fortunate to marry into inherited wealth and priveledge like all the rest of the hangers on. People like Boudicca,Nelson,Cromwell are far more deserving of being included in that list
Good God, no. You just have to remember what section of the Great British Public is voting for this sort of thing . . . the same ones who voted Big Brother best reality TV show over The Blue Planet, I suspect.
The Unknown Soldier is the only worthy recipient of this. He represents every soldier who died for Britain and no-one else in the list comes close to this level of sacrifice (and therefore, in my opinion, greatness).
if i had a permanent income, no bills or job and the worlds press looking over my shoulder, you can bet your sweet a*se that i would try to do a load of charity work. would this make me a good person or a great briton. NO. as slimjim said it should be any one of the soldiers who fought in ww1, ww2 who have been forgotten by todays government, please remember 11/11 and donate to the poppy appeal. but if 1 had to be chosen from the list it should only be Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
