name of us city named after a hero of texan independence who was nicknamed "six feet six" which became the capital city of the state of texas during the 1830s

Just an aside Clare Texas wasn't a state in the 1830's it was an independant republic, it became a state in 1845
Sam Houston was President of the Texas Republic and a bit of war hero from the Mexican war. Not sure if Houston, Texas is the State Capital though.

Austin becames capital of Texas in 1846. The city was named after Stephen F Austin who was considered the Father of Texas, who, for a time commanded Texas troops during the war with Mexico.


He also stood for President USA but was beaten by Sam Houston, although he served as Secretary of State for a few months until his death.

The answer is Sam Houston, who stood six-feet six tall.
