There has been lots of predictions from people in the past predicting when the world will end. But will it ever end and what is likely to cause it?

yes, the sun will eventually burn out and we'll catch our deaths of cold.
theyve spotted a meteor in news other day - will hit in 2130 if it comes close enough
I think research has shown that the sun will eventually explode(about 50 million years) and take the whole Solar system with it.
Or just leave bush & blair in charge that'll destroy the world!

The world will end , the cause rather depends on whether you mean human life, life in total of the physical planet.

A major asteroid strike is always possible and we might well not survive it as a species, if could happen tommorow - we've seen big ones nip between us and the moon and not spotted them until they'd passed.

If we get by that a supervolcano like the one in the states could well finish us off.

Either way human life might just evolve away, before the sun dies we've been on this planet as humans for just a couple of hundred thousand years or so, some of the species around us have been here for tens of millions of years but the Sun will be a few Billion years before it goes.

Whatever eyes look up to see the sun swell up and distroy the earth I doubt you'd recognise them as human

the sun will become a red giant in about 5 billion years, then cool into a white dwarf, Humanity will need to have moved out by then. There's a great scene at the end of The Time Machine - the book, I don't think it's in either film - in which a huge red sun hangs in the sky over a red beach with crabs... it'll probably be like that.

four and a half billion years to go. Sun die's so does Earth.

a meteor will hit at 2130?!? damn thats only 5hrs, must say my goodbyes
2012 according to the Mayan calendar and they were correct about everything else they predicted.

all good things come to an end. the earth will die one day.

i think it will be the day i retire from work.

"just my bl00dy luck !!!"

Well, even if we escape from the solar system, the universe starts shrinking into nothing in a few quintillion years.
The mountains have nearly been worn nearly flat by groups of nutters flocking up them throughout recorded history to witness the end of the world.

I'm sure they felt right prats on the way down.
I was watching Richard Attenborough presenting 'Planet Earth' the other week and nearly choked and had to ask the wife what he had just said. She told me he had said "the earth will end in 5 billion years". I replied "phew, what a relief, I thought he said 5 million!"

The world, or earth, will not end. Isaiah 45;18 For this is what Jehovah has said, the Creator of the heavens, He the [true] God, the Former of the earth and the Maker of it, He the One who firmly established it, who did not create it simply for nothing, who formed it even to be inhabited: I am Jehovah, and there is no one else".

What Jehovah will do is kick out those ruining the earth. Revelation 11;. 18 But the nations became wrathful, and your own wrath came, and the appointed time for the dead to be judged, and to give [their] reward to your slaves the prophets and to the holy ones and to those fearing your name, the small and the great, and to bring to ruin those ruining the earth.

The earth HAS to remain to cater for those left over, those mentioned at Psalm 37; 9 For evildoers themselves will be cut off,
But those hoping in Jehovah are the ones that will possess the earth.

Psalm 37;11 But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth,
And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

Its all there in the Bible.
