I am thinking about going to see a medium. Could anyone reccomend any good ones preferably in the Essex area or in London. Also how much roughly do they charge? Can anything bad happen during the session?

They are all experts at cold reading and are no more in touch with the other side than my chair.

If you're going to see the medium just out of curiosity or for a laugh, then fine, enjoy it. However, if you have a problem or some issue that is causing you stress, please, please, please don't go there. I am not necessarily dismissive of the whole "spiritual" world - I keep an open mind on these things - but you should know that so-called "mediums" or "psychics" have a variety of pseudo-psychological techniques at their disposal, the most obvious being "Cold reading," a very clever trick which these people have been using for a very long time. There are many, many ways of dealing with something that hurts. Friends. Family. The Samaritans. Charities. 99% of these people are frauds, and the other 1% are delusional. I don't know you, but I beg you not to go down this potentially damaging and stressful route.

The only bad thing (and there won't be anything good) is that you'll be conned out of money you can ill afford.

The only thing that will happen is a cold reading. You'll be told things that you think apply to you, but that would apply to anyone. Have you ever noticed that so called mediums commune with the dead yet the dead are very vague about detail and require the medium to look to you to qualify what's being "said" . Frankly you'd think that the ghosts of your dead relatives would know your name, know their own name and posses more than a passing recollection about the events they are attempting to draw to your attention.

Take heed of all the above advice lozlg. Also relieved you said 'am thinking of going' and not 'I am going' as despite what is commonly thought - fun it ain't!

I say this from my own experience (which I will keep private for your sake!) and others I've spoken to. It might seem harmless at the time but it's the long term knock on effect that can cause really bad problems. Talk to anyone, friends, family, a trusted vicar, doctor or pastor - anyone, rather than these people.

OK time for Devil's Advocate.I went to one medium in Yorkshire years ago who guessed my background based on the wedding ring and kids I had with me. I was not married and the kids were cousins - totally useless. However, went to medium in Canvey Island on the recommendation of a male friend (who didn't know many personal details about me) and boy was she spot on. None of this "who's Mary, John, William" etc - she came right out with my Gran's name (Ethel) no other name was mentioned and the fact that she was my gran. She also correctly named my cat who had died 3 weeks earlier (no - it wasn't puss or Tiddles!!). a minor thing I know but i was really distressed about his death at the time. I recorded the conversation and played it back to my mum who, a sceptic also, was amazed. However, this lady is an exceptional woman and if she can't read anything into you she doesn't charge. I would definately say the majority are con artists - but there are genuines out there.

My Sister accompanied her friend who was to see a medium on a recommendation.Her friend was not charged by the Medium and was pleased by the meeting,and asked my sister if she would like to see the medium,as he had invited her to if she wished to.My sister did have a talk with the medium,and after a few minutes told her that there were two persons behind her in spirit form.One was our father who had passed over many years ago(true,1959)and with him was his first born who had passed over many years before his father,also true.There is no way that the medium could have know these facts.

And Deuteronomy 18; 10-12 ' . 10 There should not be found in you anyone who makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire, anyone who employs divination, a practicer of magic or anyone who looks for omens or a sorcerer, 11 or one who binds others with a spell or anyone who consults a spirit medium or a professional foreteller of events or anyone who inquires of the dead. 12 For everybody doing these things is something detestable to Jehovah, and on account of these detestable things Jehovah your God is driving them away from before you. 13 You should prove yourself faultless with Jehovah your God.". Note; Consults a spirit medium. The reason the bible warns of this is because it leaves you open to Satanic influence and lots of problems.
