Its actually a bit of a christian myth that the cross is a pagan symbol; there are celtic roots to the cross but it had little to do with paganism. The major symbol of worship for pagans is the pentacle, a five pointed star within a circle, which represents, among many things, the five stages of life, womanhood and balance, etc etc. "The five points represent the 4 elements plus the spirit, and the circle connects them all. A five-pointed star without the circle is sometimes called a pentagram, rather than a pentacle. Based on numerology, the five points means the pentacle symbolizes the Earth element and can be used as an Earth symbol on an altar" that quote is from about.com.

hope that helps a bit

its not the crucifix I'm referring to its the equalateral cross
Do you mean the Pentacle as explained above?

The Sun cross is also representative of neopaganism and Gnosticism. The sun cross is a cross inside a circle, one of the oldest and most universal religious symbols, and a traditional neopagan solar symbol. It is also known as the suncross, solar cross, sunwheel, sun disc, Odin's cross, and wheel of Taranis.

The sun cross proper most commonly represents the sun and the seasonal cycles of the year. The terms sun cross and sun wheel are sometimes also used to describe swastikas and Celtic crosses, which are cognate symbols. Like the swastika, the sun cross has more recently been adopted by white nationalists and related political movements.
