The movement began in a service preached by Rodney Howard-Browne, the South African evangelist. The initial onset of the revival and the accompanying gifts of the Spirit were completely valid and had solid Biblical foundations. The phenomena moved around the world quickly. However, like most other revivals recorded in history, including the Welsh Revivial and the Great Awakening in the U.S. in the early 1800's, the emphasis shifted, eventually, to the "chasing" if you will, of new experiences in Pentecostalism rather than focusing on Yeshua. I'm troubled by some of the manifestations, since I don't see any Biblical background for them. Others defend them.
If you are a mature Christian and have experience with Charismatic or Pentecostal services and have a full, clear understanding of the admonition to "Test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world" (I John 4:1) then the services can be a true joy. However, some of the more extreme adherents are to be viewed with more of an eye to Isaiah's warning (Isa. 8:16, 19-20), in my opinion...

in your opinion....................lol

Clanad has hit the nail on the head when he mentions the 'chasing' of experiences. A year after Toronto came 'The River of God' outpouring in Brownsville, Pensacola, Florida. Now, I am perfectly comfortable with the Pentacostal and Charismatic areas of the church but would feel decidedly uncomfortable with some of the extreme manifestations from these services.

A while ago I listened to a sermon from a world renowned evangelist who suggests these phenomena are just results of human frailty and shouldn't deter anyone from attending these services, receiving the blessings and using them for good n their own church - I remain unconvinced though. Testing the spirits is scriptural and should be done....always.
