Can you retrace someone's army records via their demob papers

Yes. A member of the armed forces is given a unique personnel number that will be present in the demob papers. Their records can be traced through the number alone. You would have to contact the relevant MOD department (Army, Navy,...). This might help you start...http://www.veteransagency.mod.uk/service_recs/ service_recs.htm

The demob paper should have the persons service number. Contact Army Records office via:-http://www.army.mod.uk/contacts/


State His/her service number and any other info you know (regiment etc..)



I got my Dads Polish Army Records (held at RAF Northolt). I found that the service was free for the ex-serviceman or his/her next of kin if they were dead. so I wrote the letter for my Mum (enclosing my Dads death Cert and their Marriage Cert). From these Records we discovered he was entitled to 2 British Campaign medals which we duly applied for and recently received.
