German Underground Hospital?

Does anyone know the real reason the Nazis went to so much trouble building the so called "German Underground Hospital" in Jersey during WW2.


I know it was not intended to be a hospital ,that came much later and I've read that it was intended to be used a an artillery store.Can anyone enlighten me further. Thanks.
