Years ago I read an article in Readers' Digest about some footprints found in snow... (Long question so I'll continue below).

(This is the continuation of the question, sorry if the threads muck it up!!!)...

...The article started with a shopkeeper clearing snow from his shop frontage when he noticed some footprints in the newly laid snow. The footprints appeared to be in twos (ie from a biped) and were from a cloven-hooved beast.

Out of curiosity he followed the prints (which were in a straight line) and found that no matter what obstacles were in their path they appeared on top of and on the other side. These obstacles included high walls and even buildings. Intriguingly, no other prints were found near the trail.

As word spread and more and more people began to follow these strange prints the trail was discovered to be over 100 miles long and seemed to emerge from the sea on one side of the country and enter the sea on the other.

Has anyone heard of this story? Can anyone shed any light? And if not, does anyone know how or where I can find out more about this fascinating article?
