Think I have spelt it right? Anyone know where I start as I need to know the place where I work has always been there or if the ground has been built on. Thanks

Ordnance Survey Maps.

The main library in the area of your place of work may have copies of maps going back many years. It's worth a try.

Or you may have an archives office which will certainly have old maps you can look at.

But your first port of call is the library.
If you work in a building, then I'd guess that it has been built there ... I don't expect anything was there when the planet formed initially
You can buy historic maps from OS.

Go here

The Ordnance Survey's website can provide online old OS maps of a lot of areas. Go to www.old-maps.co.uk

I'm sure the place you work will always have existed, well, for several million years, anyway.
