The legend is that Thomas Jones, vicar of Wellingborough, was, aged over 70, forced to walk this journey, by puritan dragooners. The legend further suggests that he made part of the journey on the back of a bear that befriended him after the bears owner, a barber, had been killed by the dragooners... ... I believe that there is a memorial window for Thomas Jones in the north wall of the Nave of All Hallows Church, Wellingborough.
