Macbeth, they usually refer to it as the Scottish play

Actors are a notoriously suspicious lot,and saying 'Macbeth' out loud is one of their no-no's. It stems from the days of Rep. theatre - if a play was less than successful, theatre managers would pull the production and substitute something more popular, like Macbeth, so the idea grew that mentioning the name of the play would cause the current production to fail.
If you say Macbeth in a theatre, don't be surprised if you're sent outside to turn around three times and spit
