King John had Magna Carta annulled by the Pope so it wasn't worth the animal skin it was written on, all within months of that celebrated day in June 1215. If any later monarchs had trouble with their subjects they'd just bang out a copy of Magna Carter to shut them all up. Later copies exist from the time of Henry III and Edward I. Also the importance of the document was exaggerated by Parliament in the Civil War. Magna Carta is also championed by the Americans who's Bar Association paid for the landscaped gardens and obelisk in the 1950's. Its proximity to the JFK memorial means it's a popular stopping off point for Yanks on their way to Windsor Castle.
