Has anyone ever heard a banshee wail or even believe in them?
My Aunt Cissy used to tell us stories when we were little about banshees and scared the cr@p out of us even saying that she had heard one, presumably to wind us up even more, great fun!
A family sitting there in rural Ireland with the wind howling around the poorly contructed roof and gables making a wailing sound. It doesn't take much for an empty stomach to work on an empty head and a bit of mischievous story-telling becomes a folklore myth.
As you say, a nice tale for the kiddies, as long as you don't overdo it!
Oh yes warpig, I've heard their bloodcurling call at night. They usually wait until the early hours of the morning for this serenade and the sound can turn your blood to ice.
In fact it won't be that long until they resume their calls again....wait for the scream of the vixen :-)
Crete, did she tell you blood curdling stories as above if so are you one of my borthers or my sister??? Did she tell you the rude ditty ' first you bend then you squeeze out comes the lemon cheese?', sorry to be crude but this is what Aunt Cissy was like and we loved it when she baby sat!!!
I had the great misfortune to be married to a fully certified Irish banshee by the name of Maureen. Her bloodcurdling speech was the least of my problems and now thankfully are someone else's.
