Well, if you go just halfway to anywhere on various different occasions, it's obvious that you will never actually get there! For example, on a 20-mile journey, Day 1, let's say, covers 10 miles, Day 2, 5 miles and so on. Eventually, you may be just � of an inch away from your destination, However, the next day, you'll still have 1/8 of an inch to go...then 1/16...then 1/32 etc. You'll never get there!

Exactly the same applies to the situation you describe...you won't die. Indeed, since one can only be either alive or dead at any given moment, you're only doing the Day 1 "trip" twice!

You get scared three-quarters to death. Taking my cue from Quizmonster's answer, you get scared half to death the first time, then the second time there's only half of you left to be scared, and half of a half is a quarter. And 1/2 + 1/4 = 3/4... dunno about anyone else, but I'm confused!
