After reading the link to white Poppy's I am disgusted with the idea.

As the first and second world wars could not be avoided by political discussion what would we have done, just surrendered and let the Germans run England?

At times war is necessary!

Don't degenarate the Red Poppy's.
i too am disgusted.

Fine i understand that discussion is imperative, and war should be a last resort, but at times war is essential.

Peace should be about now and the future, not the past, everything is better with hindsight, i somehow dont think Haigh thought "Hmmmm, i think i shall get 300,000 young soldiers to be killed today"

I have a great deal of respect for those that have fallen for our country and our freedom.

They went through things that most of us can never comprehend all for us today to sit at home in the warmth and watch Corrie.

If I ever see anyone wearing a white poppy I will remove the offending item and set fire to it.
Would burning a white poppy because you disagree with it be different in some important way to Hitler burning books he disagreed with John?
Yes it would, who reads white poppies?
I always thought that the idea of a white poppy was less about the politics of war and more about the sadness of war... so not wanting to wear a red poppy symbolising the blood of dead soldiers, and not wanting to glorify war in a nationalistic way, therefore wearing a symbol of remembrance for the dead whilst not condoning the war in which they died. Have to say that I think it's harsh for posters to condemn anyone wearing a white poppy - it still shows respect but is also expressing a longing for peace and is showing that the wearer is not supporting war. I think that is particularly relevant considering today's climate - a lot of people are devastated by soldier and civillian death in Iraq but do not support the war.
How incitefull!

It must be said John your answer makes it seem as if your first reaction to something you don't like is violence and burning.

The Armed forces must be so proud of you!
The red poppy is the symbol of rememberance for those who lost their lives in conflicts, and as such,it should be the flower of choice. The white poppy is a peace movement symbol,by all means wear it,but at the appropriate time.
And I've been told that donations for white poppies don't go to the general poppy appeal. So you wouldn't be supporting the 'old soldiers'.
