Victorians and Elizabethans

Under queen Victoria the population were known as Victorians... we are now the new "Elizabethans" for future generations.

But what were people known as (will be known as) under King Charles... surely not Charlies...

Also Henry.. not Henries?

I don't think people consider us Neo-Elizabethans, as the Queen doesn't have the cultural or political impetus to have an age named after her, unless her namesake and Queen Vic (although she wielded very little political power herself). I know what you mean though; you also have Jacobean for the period ruled by James I, and Henrician is used for the reign of Henry VIII, but no other.

Sometimes it makes more sense to label a period by the political and cultural situations rather than the regnant monarch.

When, and if, HRH The Prince of Wales accedes to the throne, he is under no compunction to use the name Charles.

He is alleged to have considered rejecting the title King Charles III because of its associations with Britain's bl00dy past; the most discussed alternative has been George VII, in honour of his grandfather.

Provided Prince Charles acceeds to the throne, if he retains his first name then the correct term would probably be Carolian (Carolus being the Latin form of Charles).

However as Kempie has already said, there are well-founded rumours about that he will probably prefer to use his last name (his full name is Charles Philip Arthur George) and be styled George VII.

Just as Henry VIIIs reign is considered Tudor, there is no reason why this period can't be called Windsor.

I disagree with BrainMonkeys, Queen Victoria wielded quite a bit of political power behind the scenes as recent evidence has shown. Because of this, that is why we name the period after her.
I think we do not name any periods after Monarchs anymore because of the decline of British power in the world.

The reign of Charles 1 is known as the Stuart period and I think you'll find the people living then are called 'Jacobeans'.
