Skull and Cross-bones on Graves?

Does anyone know what this means?

In a graveyard in Leith, Scotland there are many headstones with the skull and crossbones.

In this case it meant that death was caused by the plague.

I don't know if it's the same meaning throughout Britain though.

I think it means that whomever is buried there is a mason of the scottish rite of masonry.

Originally used by the Knights Templars, the practice was continued by the Masonry to indicate the resting place of a member.
