Aircraft Carrier Myth

Could someone please confirm the myth that an Aircraft carrier durring ww2 while without power employed all the air craft to the deck and used only the air generated from there propellers to move the ship to port? If true, what was the name of the Carrier?Thank you

I think it was the movie 'Flying Leathernecks' with John Wayne that featured such a scene, based on an actual incident. Don't remember any more details, apart from one of the actors making a big thing about the aircraft engines overheating.

Don't know. But, as a Marine Engineer I can't see it happening in real life.

Gonna say, how much did WWII planes weigh? They had engines that most certainly prouced a thrust / weight ratio that wouldn't allow them to climb at a very good rate.

WWII carriers weighed, what, about 30,000 tonnes displaced weight?
It took engines with thousands of horsepower to push them along?

Can't see it happening. However, if John Wayne managed it then it must have happened. :)
