In the Disney film Mulan, Mulan is dressed in a Geisha style to go and see the match maker, were there Geisha (or indeed Geisha fashions-eg, white face and red lips) in China as well as Japan or was this an embellishment on Disney's half?

I haven't seen Mulan, but the tradtional Chinese clothing of the Han (think Confuscious) was robes for both men and women, and is older than the Japanese Kimono

You can see the similarity.

Yeah definitely a similarity there, although it was more the make-up I was referring to as Mulan is done up with a white face and red lips, thanks very much though!
