I think it's Charles de Gaull, but I could be wrong.
I don't know about the figure of 30 assassination attempts, but David Ben Gurion, ex Prime Minister of Israel, certainly had a few attempts on his life made. Ben Gurion airport is near Tel Aviv.

Many thanks for your help; I had thought of Ben Gurion, but I was unable to verify the number of assassination attempts.
Maybe Yasser Arafat?
I googled "De Gaulle assissination attempts " and a number of sites came up saying there were more than 30!
hard to think of De Gaulle as a 19th-century politician; he was 10 in 1900.
Cavendish did say 19th/20th century, jno.
