Well there is clearly something interesting there, even if you ignore all the other "UFOs at Groom Lake" rumours.
Historically the U.S. Government always denied the existence of any facility there - they only publically acknowledged it when the former Soviet Union published ariel surveillance photos showing a huge base with two simply enormous runways (which are both long enough to handle the Space Shuttle landing, as well as any commercial airline regardless of size).
Any form of Govt secrecy will bring rampant paranoia and a thirst for information from certain groups of society, and Area 51 is the big kahuna for these.
There are certain facts known about the area.
Until recently the best vantage point to see anything at the base was a nearby range of hills. The Govt has recently taken possession of these...read into that what you will.
The President has also signed an order prohibiting the base from being to made under federal, state or local law from having to comply with environmental notices.
Basically they no longer need to either comply with any environmental laws regarding chemical discharges, nor explain what they are discharging.
It certainly goes some way to indicating that Groom Lake isn't just an air base - if they have the need to discharge potentially environmentally damaging material they must either be researching or manufacturing something.
This isn't really a massive revelation - out of the Groom Lake facility came various things now in use - the Stealth Fighter and Bomber being good examples.
For years people claimed to have seen black triangular aircraft in the area - we now know what these are.
