life during the blitz

i am currently doing a project at uni, I am to devise a piece of realistic drama set in the early 1940's, more specifically 1942. To do this i need to research into everyday life in London family homes and the human angle of the Blitz. so far i have managed to get alot of statistics and recounts of bombings but i cant seem to find any information about the impact to human life or the way people seemed to carry on. if anyone knows of a website where i could aquire such research from i would be very grateful. also if anyone has experience of living through such times i would love to hear from you. thankyou ever so much. pixie xxxxx

Try a book by Norman Longmate called How We Lived Then : Everyday Life During The Second World War. He also wrote several other books about war on the home front in WW2.

My 12 year old niece has a book in the Horrible Histories series called Blitzed Brits. Being for kids it goes into day to day life in great detail.

I lived through the Blitz for three years before joining the services. "Impact to human life etc" is a bit too much for me to try to answer (in my neighbourhood we just adjusted to it and surprisingly quickly it became a way of life which could be put up with - a lot of people still had clear memory of WW1 and hated Germans which made us somehow comfortable - and we were all certain that we would win). However, if there is some specific detail of which you would like to know I will do my best to answer if I can still remember!

I think your best bet would be to try and get a copy of "1940's House" which was on Channel 4 a year or two ago. It portrayed everyday life in the 1940's during the War extremely well.
