In what respect tinkle-berry?
He refused to believe he was the servant of God i think and said he was the head of the church, and he also did not believe in the transubstantiation thing, he said it was symbolic not the real blood and flesh, at least that is what i recall from my History module lol
As a Catholic, he would have had to recognise the Pope as supreme head of the church. After being excommunicated, he dismissed the Pope's authority, and declared himself to be supreme head of the English church.
Henry started off as catholic, and married a catholic as his first wife (daughter of King of Spain).

When he wanted a divorce from her, the pope would not give him one (because of pressure from Spain).

So he broke away from the Catholic church and the UK became a Protestant country.

After Henrys death we swung back and forth between Catholic and Protestant for many years until William of Orange, a protestant, became King.

I believe it is now illegal for us to have a Catholic king.

I think Camilla is Catholic which does pose a few problems when Charles becomes King.
Henry VIII wanted to divorce his wife Catherine of Aragan in order to marry Anne Boleyn. He could not get dispensation from Rome and so he left the catholic church and founded and made himself head of the Church of England . The catholic religion was outlawed...monastries burnt down etc etc
Camilla cannot be catholic...the future king would never be allowed to have a catholic wife, just as Prince William cannot marry a catholic princess or catholic commoner. A royal prince would always by tradition marry a royal princess...and there are many he could have chosen...but they are unsuitable by virtue of them being catholic. thus making it more likely he will choose a "commoner" for his wife, just as Prince Charles married his mother Lady Diana Spencer.
Also Henry's first wife was his older brothers wife first, but after Arthur (Henrys brother) died, to keep harmony and alliances stable, Henry was married to the aged Catherine on Henry VII's request/demand. Then when Catherine proved to be barren with regard to male heirs, Henry fell in love with another. Divorce was allowed, but as mentioned in another answer, the Pope would not grant this under pressure from the most powerful Catholic force at the time Emperor Charles V (the Holy Roman Emperor) her nephew, who considered such an act of annulment as a disgrace to the family.

Henry then turned to new thinking after being excommunicated, and made himself head of a Church of England and made it law and refusal to acknowledge him as such would be punishable by death.

Henry was a Catholic at birth, and through his pursuit for power and to save face, he started a 'new' religeon.
he was a botty bandit.
It was the transsubstantiation thing too though, that was the challenge to the Catholic church and the Pope.
I have one point and one question. Surely instead of Catholic, one should write "Roman Catholic", didn't Henry break from the Roman Catholic church? My question is: Can the PM of Britain be a Roman Catholic?
He was Catholic and because the pope refused to grant his divorce with Catherine he got the archbishop of canterbury to grant it and this caused a split with the catholic church and pope. He then made them make him become Supreme Head of Church.
Stu is right; as far as Henry was concerned he was still Catholic; he just didn't follow the dictates of Rome and the pope.
