50th Div veterans

My grandad was in the 2nd WW!! He actually did soo much during the war!! I know he was in the 5oth Division, based at Northumberland. He was a despatch rider!! He was at the D day landings and landed at arromanche, he was a Dunkirk veteran and he was also at al alamine?? Does anybody know anything about this information and does anybody know anyone who was also a part of any of these!! Many thanks

I'm not sure what you are asking - my grandad also served at most of the places you mention, as did a heck of a lot of other people.

Are you looking or information on the particular campaigns? If so, just try googling - El Alamein for example brings up lots of information.

If you know your grandads service number you could actually send for his service records, I've got my grandads and they are very interesting!

I feel Taleisin is just blissed out at finding his grandad's place in the great schemes of history - which is brilliant. Point is, so many of that older generation never talked about it much afterwards as blocking out the hideousness was the only 'therapy' on offer.
One of our grandads still has nightmares. He was on D1 at Lyon-sur-mer and at Sicily. His battalion were not issued with helmets (maroon berets instead), but plenty of rum. He never complains.
Taleisin - take a trip to Normandy and go to Arromanches and then to Colleville-sur-Mer (Omaha beach cemetery).
