Theses are Imbolc, the fire festival (feb 21), Ostara the Spring equinox (Mar 21), Beltane, the Spring fertility festival (May 1), the Midsummer Soltice (Jun 21), Lammas or Lughnasadh the harvest festival (Aug 1), Mabon the Autumn equinmox (Sep 21), Samhain The pagan New Year - our Halloween (Oct 31) and Yule the Winter soltice (Dec 21).
Lammas or Lughnasadh is the harvest full moon, at the summer cross-quarter. This is the pagan celebration of the harvest, grain mother - Ceres, Cerealia (Roman) Demeter (Greek - her daughter Persephone represents the grain seed, ie; the story of the pomegranate and the king of the underworld) and also the celebration of Lugh, who is the corn or sun king - depending upon secular teadition - who dies with the waning year. The symbolism of all of this is the process of regeneration and ripening of our seeds (most obviously interpreted as the inner self) during the Dark of the year. This is a time for thanksgiving for the active and agricultural growth brought by the sun, which now begins to wane as the dark winter months approach.
