No. Only lift it ever had was a facelift.
No - you can climb the Monument (further east) but only by stairs; but the only way up Nelson's Column is on the outside.
People of a certain age will remember John Noakes of Blue Peter climbing it ...

I think there is a restaurant in Nelson's hat as well.
It was built in about 1840 around 10-15 years before the first safe passenger lift was manufactured and installed. I imagine trying to fit one in post-erection might have been cost prohibitive and potentially damaged the old sea dog.

There is a sling, perhaps you could use that.
there must be a small lift though, a pigeon sized one, how do they get up there if there isn;t eh? ANSWER ME THAT!
Well, Dot, there's one pigeon in charge and he carries the rest up to the top because he's a...........................carrier pigeon. Goodbye.
Not any more dot, a completely pigeon-poo-free zone now.

The pigeon lift was taken out of commission by Red Ken a couple of years ago.
"Nelson's Column"? Pah! It's Nelson's WILLY!!
Eh? Weren't he the country bloke who sang You are my Sunshine?
I thought that Willie Nelson was an illegal wrestling hold.
