It is said that he invented the wool comb, but I am not sure if this is why he was tortured and executed. It would seem a bit extreme, but as you know with history, many honest men (and women) have hanged for less.
His flesh was torn with iron combs before he was beheaded so he became the patron saint of the wool combers, his effigy being carried at the head of their processions each saint's day.
