my dad says the first seven months of the second world war had a special name - anyone know what it was? Debbie

it depends on what you mean, im guessing you mean the european part of WWII and in this country, at the beginning of the war Britain called it the 'phoney war' as we started preparations for war but as far as the british public was concerned nothing really happened.

I think it is phoney war.

War was declared in september 1939 but no much happened till May 1940.

Generals dont like fighting wars in the winter anyway due to the mud and cold. Much easier to fight in the spring and summer.

It led my father to join up - volunteer.
He was captured at Dunkirk and spent 5 years in captivity.

It was the last thaaang he ever volunteered for.
