WHAT IS THE HISTORY BEHIND HAVING A RED DOOR? EVEN ON HOUSES THAT IS DOESNT REALLY MATCH AT ALL

I've just found something which may interest you ihooq. It's concerning Episcopal Churches in the US: "In the earlier days of the church it was understood that a soldier could not pursue an enemy that had entered through the red doors of a church. The red doors were a symbol of refuge and sanctuary for all people who entered. To all concerned the red on the doors signified the blood of Christ that had been shed so that all who came to him could be saved. Anyone who passed through those doors was safe as long as they stayed behind them". So it looks like it signifies a place of refuge - a safe harbour.

i ve actually heard what you said as a possible explanation but wasn't sure because ive also heard that it means a that a church has been paidfor when the door is red ive also heard that feng shui(spelling?)
says that it is to bring good luck.
so i ll keep an ear out for anything elseabout it. and thanks again

I'd heard similar to the church theme, That in the bible the jews painted sheeps blood on their front doors to defend themselves from an evil plague. and painting doors and windows red is a permanent safety superstition. So i guess thats double twit to finger!

Recently, with the rage of this "Feng Shui" thing going on these days, I've seen many more red doors pop up everywhere. I was doing some research today and came across this: "Before the New Year, Chinese people clean their houses and wash their clothes. Many people put red paint on their windows and doors. Red is the colour of good luck in the Chinese tradition." I do believe the religious context is the original reasoning behind red doors, but I also think it's recent resurgence is due to the Feng Shui craze. I also came across this, which I found interesting: "THE FRONT DOOR IS AN IMPORTANT ELEMENT FOR WEALTH, so try painting your door an auspicious color. If your door faces SE, consider painting it purple or a shade of purple. You can also paint it a rich green color. If it faces north, paint it black. If your door faces south, paint the door red to enhance your reputation and renown." Either way, I think red doors look classy ;-)

I've heard that in parts of Europe and now in the U.S. the tradition of painting the door red is done to signify that the mortgage on the property is paid off.  I haven't found anything to collaborate this other than I've heard it from two sources.
