huge question, there are books and books on this. In outline, think of stiff, restrictive Victorian clothing in 1900 and much more relaxed gear in 2000; formal clothing largely restricted to the office, underwear (including T shirts) on display, skin on display, hats vanished - except baseball caps; much more colour.... and then try to tie all that into the progress of social change.
