The Virgin Queen

There Was a Queen Elizabeth who was born in the 1500's..what was her real last name? She was known as The Virgin Queen. As far as I know she was the only Queen who never had a King. I know in the early 1900's the family changed the last name from Saxe-Coburg_Gotha to Windsor...there was also the last name Tudor somewhere and several other names, but not as far back as the 1500's...I have looked into many sites about the Brithish Monarchy and the Royal Family but I cannot find info going as far back as the 1500's.

She was Elizabeth I - the last of the Tudors.

I found a site in about 5 seconds giving details of all the British kings and queens, I just searched on "British Royal Family".

There are plenty of Queens of England that did not have Kings.

Our current Queen does not have a King, nor did Queen Victoria.

When the Queen of England marries it does not automatically make the person she married King.

Queen Elizabeth the 1st never married so was never in a position to give anyone the title King.

Queen Anne's husband was not a King also.

two sorts of queens: those who are married to kings (eg the queen mother, who married George VI) and those who hold the crown in their own right. Elizabeth was the only one of either sort (in England) who didn't marry.

Not sure if all Henry VIII's wives married, since he had some of the marriages annulled.
