I think it was the Manhattan project. The British collaborated with the Americans after they found that development would cost more than one year's GDP. Theirs was tube alloys

Yup the Manhatten Project, Although i am 400% sure it was not in Manhatten, it was conducted in the Pacific on some island somewhere (Big ocean you see)
