i'll do minnesota because the norwegian went there. i just thought that it would be easier to do a german place because to get a good grade you should put half in english half in the coutry its intended for even if you use a translator which most will.

i found one of my sheets that is useful. i could do where the french moved to because i know some french. all i need to find out now is where they all went to.
If it helps, the capital of North Dakota is Bismarck and the capital of South Dakota is Pierre.
Question Author
yes it does thanks. so germans moved to one and the french moved to the other.
It would have simply been Daktoa Terittory, since neither South nor North Dakota becam States until 1889.....

aahhh we haven't learned the dates of when they became proper states. we were taught that there were territories and to become a state they had to have a certain population but i didn't know when any of them changed.
but was the german populated place decota or were you jsut stating that thats what it would have been called.

thanx.
Even today, both South and North Dakota have fairly large populations of German descent. Western North Dakota is the birthplace of Lawrence Welk (a famous musician of yesteryear). The North Dakotan Germans were unique in that they are still called Germans from Russia... they were forced out of Russia but adhered to their own language and culture, carried on after immigrating to the U.S.
Having lived near both states for sometime, my guess would be that South Dakota has a larger population of Germans however. But... my guess is that Wisconsin probably has a larger population than that of the Dakotas combined... (North Dakota only has a total population of near 600,000 and South Dakota about 790,000... while Wisconsin has a total of 5 and one half million....

aha i think it might of been wisconsin that my teacher said. but did most of them move just after 1862.

or i could do adiferent nationality from a different state. doesn't montana have spanish decent people i heard somewhere.
Although the northern tier of States have a representative number of Latinos (usually Mexicans) the numbers are fairly low as compared to those of Northern European descent. Montana has on;y 2% of its population being Latinos. Whereas Native Americans represent 6.8% of the States population... due to the large number of reservations within the State.
The Irish are well represented, especailly in the city of Butte (pronounced Bewt by the way) where they came in the latter decades of the1800's drawn to the many mining jobs. One of the largest copper mines in the world is located there.
Norwegians make up a significant portion of the population, especially in the eastern Counties bordering North Dakota, which has an inordinate number of Norwegian descendants...
It would appear that you left your English Grammar book & dictionary at school as well! ;o)
