I don't think it was her nickname, I think she called someone a She-Wolf, the name Isabella comes to mind, but I can not remember why off the top of my head.

Never heard or read of Elizabeth 1 being called the she wolf .
Some may very well have said she was but it's not well known .
Isabella of France was nicknamed the She Wolf of France.
Elizabeth called Lettice Knollys a she wolf .But as for her having that particular nickname herself is a new one on me .

I was confusing the two, completely wrong century!

Lettice Knollys was the girl Robert Dudley married after finally accepting refusal from Queen Elisabeth. Lizzy then banished her out of pure jealously. Great stuff!

I read a book about Isabella of France. She was called the She Wolf of France but thats what the English named her after she began her affair with Roger Mortimer and the suspicious death of Edward II in Berkerly Castle. The thing is she was a decent wife to her husband but because he had tendanciesto showers his favourites with gifts that should have been for her, she began her own affair leading up to his death. I think it was more Roger Mortimers doing than hers.

It was Lettice Knollys that the Queen called a she-wolf for marrying Robert Dudley without her consent.

My Enemy The Queen is a novel which is supposed to be written by Lettice Knollys about Queen Elizabeth. (not sure of the author) and it has references to this love-hate relationship between the three of them.
