Does anyone know which year communist China entered the Games for the first time?

I've tried the sports section but had no luck there.

My memory tells me that it took part in 1952, but then not again until 1984.  It might not have been 1952, and it might have just been 1984.  And it might have been 1988 rather than 1984.  I'm not sure without checking, but there was definitely a long gap when they didn't take part.

The People's Republic of China did not take part until Los Angeles 1984, although "Chinese Taipei" were represented in Rome 1960 & Tokyo 1964.

It would appear to be 1932

Thanks Bangkok, but that link doesnt seem to work. I'll play around with it.

I also seem to think they entered a few competitions in an earlier games but the Olympics site doesnt seem to have lists of participating countries by year. I'm probably missing something...

Bangkok is wrong because China didn't become Communist until 1949.

Yes, I'd worked that out too Bernardo.

From the site that Bangkok mentioned, I've arrived at 1952.

Thanks
