1935
I'm reading a book set in 1935 in which the main character inherits £500,000 and I would love to know what that would be worth now,I imagine it would have been much more life-changing than the same amount now.

Well, I wouldn't mind having £500000 but you're right ,when you consider the price of property even now it's hardly a fortune, is it? That's why I wanted to know what it's worth now,so that I could understand the situation better. The main character's husband is very jealous because he's not very well paid and it's causing problems in the marriage. The only problem it would cause in my marriage would be what we'd spend it on first!

Well it is not a FORTUNE, but it would still take someone earning £25,000 a year 20 years to save that much, and this is if they saved ALL the £25,000 every year.
My father bought the family home in North London in 1966 for £10,000 and it is now worth over £500,000
